Hebrew and Jewish Culture at the Studium

Come and take a crash course on Jewish culture and Biblical Hebrew language at the Studium in June.

The course is taught by Rabbi James Baaden of Sha’areiTsedek, North London Reform Synagogue, UK, on June 3rd-7th. The course is held in the evenings on weekdays and in the afternoon on Saturday and Sunday.

About the Course Contents

Please note that the form of Hebrew we are learning is "Classical" or "Biblical" Hebrew - NOT Modern Hebrew (Ivrit) as spoken in Israel. We'll cover the whole alphabet, plus the vowel signs invented by the Masoretes, and some basic vocabulary.

Additionally, it will include relatively brief "learning units" on more general topics along the way, every day, such as:

How Modern Hebrew was Created
The Language of the Psalms
Torah, Hebrew Bible, Tanakh, Old Testament - What's what?
Hebrew and Aramaic
Introduction to the Jewish Liturgy
Reading, Translating, Interpreting the Biblical Text: Traditional Jewish Approaches
The Judaism of the Bible - and Rabbinic Judaism of Today

The course fee is only EUR 30.
