Sr Sofie's talks on the Theology of the Body

Sr Sofie Hamring OP gave the talks of the Studium's Advent Retreat on November 23-25, 2018. The title of the retreat was Therefore Glorify God in Your Body and the subject matter was the Theology of the Body of St John Paul II.

Happily, Sr Sofie agreed to share her talks with us in written form, so those who missed the retreat can learn more about this area of theology - and those who took part in the retreat can immerse themselves in it again.

"The satisfaction of the passions is one thing, quite another is the joy a person finds in possessing himself more fully, since in this way he can also become more fully a true gift to another person."

Saints of Lisieux left Finland

The relics of Saint Thérèse of Lisieux and her parents Saints Zélie and Louis Martin toured Finland in October, finishing of their pilgrimage with a night at Carmel in Espoo.

On Sunday, December 10, friends of the Welcoming Team and the Studium Catholicum gathered for the traditional Pikkujoulut Pre-Cristmas Party at the Studium. If you missed it, you really should think about prioritising better next year, but please enjoy these photos as consolation.

Diocesan Forum in Pictures

The Diocesan Forum held in Helsinki on October 28, 2017 was a great success. More than a hundred people attended, and Sister Catherine Droste OP gave an interesting keynote speech on the Beauty of Catholic Marriage.

A Visit from KISI - God's Singing Kids

Today there was a group of teenagers who sang beautifully at the Mass at the Studium. They came from Austria, and represent the KISI movement, which spreads the gospel through songs and musicals. The movement was founded by Hannes Minichmayr (pictured next to Fr Antoine Lévy OP above) and his wife. The KISI ministry brings children together to sing and interpret passages of the Bible in Austria, Germany, Hungary, Uganda and the Holy Land.

Pics from the Pre-Christmas Party

The Pre-Christmas Party of the Weldoming Team was hel at the Studium on Sunday, December 13, 2015. It was a memorable party for all who were there - not least because of the spirited rendition of Havah Nagilah (Let us rejoice ) by Father Antoine Lévy OP, which fit perfectly into the theme of Gaudete Sunday, though there was a lot of other musical entertainment as well.

Brother Gabriel's First Mass

Brother Gabriel Salmela OP was ordained a priest in Saint Laurence's Church in Lohja on Saturday, August 15, 2015. On Sunday, August 16, he celebrated his first Mass at St Henry's Cathedral in Helsinki.

The homily was by Brother Marie-Augustin Laurent-Huyghues-Beaufond OP and it is available here (in Finnish). Below are some photos from the Mass .

Brother Gabriel ordained a priest

Brother Gabriel Salmela OP was ordained a priest in Saint Laurence's Church in Lohja on Saturday, August 15, 2015, on the Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. The ordination Mass was celebrated by His Eminence the Bishop of Helsinki, Teemu Sippo SCJ. Also present was the Dominican Prior Michel Lachenaud OP.

First Mass in Finland for Fr Marie-Augustin

Father Marie-Augustin Laurent-Huyghues-Beaufond OP celebrated his first Mass in Finland on Sunday, July 12. Father Marie-Augustin was ordained a priest in France at the end of June.

Brother Gabriel Salmela OP gave the homily during the Mass at St Henry's Cathedral. Brother Gabriel will be ordained a priest at the Diocesan Day Mass at St Lawrence's Church in Lohja on August 15. Those who wish to attend the Diocesan Day should register with their parishes.

Wine, cheese and Oxbridge on first Culture Night

The Studium's new programme form, the Culture Night, was successfully launched on Friday, April 17. Guest of honour was Brother Matthew Jarvis OP from Blackfriars in Oxford, England.
