Sr Sofie's talks on the Theology of the Body

Sr Sofie Hamring OP gave the talks of the Studium's Advent Retreat on November 23-25, 2018. The title of the retreat was Therefore Glorify God in Your Body and the subject matter was the Theology of the Body of St John Paul II.

Happily, Sr Sofie agreed to share her talks with us in written form, so those who missed the retreat can learn more about this area of theology - and those who took part in the retreat can immerse themselves in it again.

"The satisfaction of the passions is one thing, quite another is the joy a person finds in possessing himself more fully, since in this way he can also become more fully a true gift to another person."

Studium at Night of Sciences event on Jan. 18

The Studium Catholicum takes part in the Tieteiden yö - Vetenskapens natt event on January 18, 2018. We’ll be at the House of Science and Letters (Tieteiden talo) in Kirkkokatu 6 (1st floor) at 17-21.

Academicum Catholicum's Autumn at the Studium

The Dominican Order's 800th Jubilee coincides with Academicum Catholicum's 80th year, which means celebrations are in order. At 18.45 on Thursday, September 22 a glass of bubbly will be served at the Studium to get the autumn programme off to a festive start.

Brother Gabriel's ordination on August 15

On Saturday, August 15th, Gabriel Salmela OP will be ordained a priest by Bishop Teemu Sippo SCJ. The ordination Mass will take place in the Saint Lawrence Church in Lohja in conjunction with this year's Diocesan Day. The Mass begins at 10.00 a.m. and celebrations continue at the diocesan centre Stella Maris.

Brother Gabriel was ordained a Deacon by Bishop Teemu in January 2015.

St Henry's Cathedral Parish is organising bus transport to Lohja and the Diocesan Day celebrations. For more information, click here to go to the parish website.

The AC's AGM and lecture tonight

The Academicum Catholicum's Annual General Meeting is held today, March 19, at the Studium. The AGM begins at 6.30 p.m. and will deal with statutory issues as well as the association's new statutes.

At 7 p.m. Rope Kojonen will give a talk on intelligent design, creation and evolution. The talk is in Finnish.

The April AC talk will be given in Swedish by Father Anders Hamberg. On April 16 he will be giving a presentation on the traditionalist movements in the Catholic Church.

On May 23 the Academicum Catholicum heads to Tampere for its traditional spring outing.

Adoration on Wednesdays

Every Wednesday at 18.00 there is Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in the Studium Chapel followed by Vespers at 19.00.
